Ghatasala, South Indian Music Singer

Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao (born December 4, 1922 - 1974) was a popular South Indian singer and music composer of Telugu films and few other Indian language films. He received Padmashree award.

Ghantasala debuted as a chorus singer and for a character role in Seetha Rama Jananam by Pratibha Films. He became popular singer with the early films like Balaraju and Keelugurram, and later sang for most of the movies for all actors for next two decades.

Producer Krishnaveni gave him first chance as full music director for her film Mana desam. He later composed music for many popular Telugu movies like Patala Bhairavi, Gundamma katha, Paramanadiah Sishyula Katha, Pelli Chesi Chudu, Mayabazar and Lava kusa.

The famous renderings of Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao also include private albums, like BhagawadGita, Patriotic Songs, Padyalu (unique genre of Telugu - singing the verses in dramatic style), Pushpa Vilapam and folk songs. Some of songs by him are:

K. V. Mahadevan, or "MaaMa" as he was popularly known among his colleagues, has a special place in South Indian film music.

His most famous and recent composition in Telugu was in the movie directed by K.Viswanath, Swathi Kiranam (1991). He produced many hit songs collaborating with legendary directors K. Viswanath including the multiple national award winning "Sankaraabharanam".

He is clearly the director with the most number of musical chart busters in more than 60 years of Telugu music and most of his movies went on to create box-office records as he was a part of the best technical teams of highly successful directors as K. Viswanath, Adurti Subba Rao, V. Madhusoodana Rao, V.B. Rajendra Prasad, K.S. Prakash Rao, Bapu, Balachander, K. Bapaiah to name a few.

While a man was washing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked stone & scratched lines on the side of the car.

In anger, the man took the child's hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father.... with painful eyes he asked “Dad when will my fingers grow back?”

Man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to car and kicked it a lot of times.

Devastated by his own actions..... sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches, child had written….

“LOVE YOU DAD”

The next day that man committed suicide…
